What is involved in being an MHH Director or helper?

First of all does the title director put you off? It frightened me a little at first but having the experience of 'listening in' at the Land Maintenance meetings, I discovered that essentially the role is that of voluntary worker.

I served as chairman on the Land Maintenance committee which meets a week after the board meeting. The other committee is the Financial and General Purposes committee which looks after the finances of the company, buildings owned by MHH, e.g. the Control Tower and the Clock Tower in Manor Rd, and the general administration involved in running MHH.

People are needed for both and it depends on your interests as to which one you would best serve. Each of these meetings are held once a month.

There is a monthly Board meeting held on the third Monday of each month. These meetings start at 7.30pm and end by 9.00pm. The board discusses matters that have arisen and presents reports from the LMC and F & GP committees. There are usually a wide variety of subjects discussed from tree surgery to vandalism! It can be quite interesting work and is essential for us to air all these things so that we can carry out MHH work efficiently.

We need people to join as either directors or helpers so that MHH can continue to do the job of looking after our village. The more people we have the less each individual needs to do. If we don't get enough helpers we may one day have to hand over to the council. MHH protects the heath and looks after its interests.

If you didn't want to be come an MHH director then how about a helper? This would mean that you did not need to attend the board meetings, just the F&GP or the LMC meeting once a month. The more people we have the less each individual needs to do. It may involve the occasional phone call to a resident or a visit if there is a problem. We support each other and no one needs to feel alone in their role.

Why not come along to a Board meeting and just 'sit in' on one to hear what is discussed to give you a feel for what goes on?
